Getting Ready for July 4th on Sunny Sanibel Island

SanibelSusan here with my apologies for not personally getting out our Friday blogs for the last couple of weeks. The good news is that teammate Realtor son Dave has kept our SanibelSusan Realty business on track and continues to be our wheels, strong arm, and physical property wizard .

The personal good news is that this ole Realtor is getting back on her feet after emergency exploratory surgery at Lee Health Medical Center on Father’s Day. I have not been discharged officially yet but they have a new program called Lee Health Home Care which is like being in the hospital but instead recovering where you live. So yesterday I was transported back to Anchor Dr with multiple daily doc/nurse visits and look forward to catching up on sleep and work.

Our usual blog will be out again on Friday, but am writing today as we did not want to miss promoting the many special events coming up for the 4th. The City is going all out this year with family fun planned from morning ‘til night.

Seems like yesterday when island Realtors started the Sanibel parades. It all began in 1994 at the suggestion of long-respected Broker Don Bissell. That organizational meeting was at The Quarterdeck Restaurant at 1625 Periwinkle Way where many of us volunteered to help. (Who remembers the Quarterdeck?) The parade now is arranged and managed by The Friends of Don and the City.

For many of the early years, The SanibelSusan Team had a parade entry throwing our swag to the many viewers along the route. Later we welcomed clients and friends to enjoy it from our office, nothing like easy parking, cool AC, water, and a bathroom on a hot summer morning. This year, the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Association of Realtors will have a group entry.

Fingers crossed that the weather holds for all the holiday fun. Daytime temps this week are expected to be high 80’s/low 90’s (degrees F), with rain chances from 35-60% depending on the day.

 4th of July Events & America’s 250th Birthday on Sanibel Island

“Sanibel Community Church July 4th Pancake Breakfast

Time: 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

Before the day’s patriotic festivities begin, the community is invited to gather for the annual Pancake Breakfast hosted by Sanibel Community Church. Sanibel Independence Day Parade

Time: 9:00 a.m.

One of Sanibel’s most anticipated traditions, the Independence Day Parade features creatively decorated vehicles, community organizations, businesses, and local groups traveling along Periwinkle Way. Jerry’s 4th of July Celebration

Time: 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

While enjoying the parade festivities, stop by Jerry’s Foods of Sanibel for food, face painting, family-friendly activities, and holiday fun in the parking lot.

Stars, Stripes & Sanibel Community Celebration

Time: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Location: Sanibel Recreation Center, 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road

Following the parade, continue the celebration at the Sanibel Recreation Center’s annual Stars, Stripes & Sanibel Community Celebration. The event features food, treats, music, swimming, inflatables, crafts, entertainment, and the island-famous water balloon battle with the Sanibel Fire District.

The popular Red, White & Blue Apple Pie Baking Contest will also return. Community members interested in participating may register online HERE.

With activities for all ages, this event has become one of the island’s signature Independence Day traditions.

46th Annual Fourth of July Road Rally

Time: 12:00 p.m.

Following the parade, participants can join the 46th Annual Fourth of July Road Rally, a fun-filled island-wide scavenger hunt that challenges teams to explore Sanibel while solving clues and answering questions along the way.

July 4th Jazz Concert

In honor of America’s 250th Anniversary, the community is invited to attend a free concert featuring jazz master Dave Brubeck’s celebration of hope, unity, and peace.

Fourth of July BBQ Buffet

As the day concludes, residents and visitors are invited to enjoy Sanibel’s spectacular Fourth of July fireworks display. Launched from the north end of Bailey Road, the show can be viewed from numerous locations, including the Sanibel Causeway, bayside beaches, and vessels on San Carlos Bay. Beginning at approximately 9:00 p.m., the display will light up the night sky in a dazzling tribute to America’s 250th birthday and a celebration of the community spirit that makes Sanibel such a special place to call home.

Sanibel & Captiva Islands Association of Realtors

The  Association had its June Membership Meeting followed by an Open Caravan this past Thursday. Three Sanibel homes were open for easy viewing after the meeting. The next meeting is an Open Caravan on July 9.
