Another sunny Sanibel Friday afternoon has arrived with little to no rain on the island this week, though inland is getting plenty.
Sanibel & Captiva Islands Association of Realtors
There was no island Association of Realtors meeting this week due to the annual Florida Realtors convention in Orlando.
Several sessions were hybrid so I got to Zoom-in on some. The Governance Meetings continue today and tomorrow with the BOD meeting on Sunday morning.
It also was great to see during the annual Awards Luncheon yesterday that two friends were surprised to receive awards. Michael Bruno with Michael Sanders and Company in Sarasota was announced as the state Associate Realtor of the Year, while Adam Gurske with Matchmaker Realty of Alachua County in Gainesville received the 2026 Humanitarian award. I served many years on state committees with these Realtors. Both so deserved this recognition.
The next island Association of Realtors meeting is the August membership meeting followed by an Open Caravan next Thursday. Guest speaker will be from the Ding Darling Wildlife Society.
In upcoming events, the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Association, in collaboration with SCCF, will participate in the International Coastal Cleanup on September 19.
This week the following was posted by the City: “A Community That Shows Up – The Sanibel & Captiva Islands Association of REALTORS® has long been connected to the people, neighborhoods and community spirit that make our islands special, and we’re grateful for their $500 donation to A Field of Heroes. Their support will sponsor flags within the field, each one honoring an individual whose life was lost on September 11, 2001. A Field of Heroes is being built, one flag, one name and one act of generosity at a time. Contributions like this help bring the entire community together around a simple but powerful promise: we remember. Thank you to the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Association of REALTORS® for investing not only in our islands, but in this meaningful community tribute.”

“Season” Is Coming
Some businesses take time off over the next few weeks for their annual vacations and facility fix-ups before ‘high season” arrives:
Other folks already are counting down to some favorite events and openings:
- Tuesday, August 25, for the 110th anniversary of the National Park Service, the J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge is offering “fee-free” access Wildlife Drive for those wanting to drive, bike, or hike it.
Sanibel Farmers Market – reopens for its 19th season on Sunday, October 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the grounds of Sanibel City Hall.- Pina Pop Soda Shop – a social media post this week announced that a new store will be opening in the former Norris Furniture building in the Priscilla Murphy Center. Run by two young families, it will feature hand-crafted sodas, fresh-squeezed lemonade, cookies, cake pops, pretzel bites, and more. Demo is done, with restoration next.
