It is hardly worth mentioning, but Sanibel got its first shower of the rainy season yesterday morning. It was short and sweet, coming from rain clouds in the gulf rather than those that typically come in the afternoon from across the state. Hopefully, there will be more to come, though the forecast for next week looks like it is unlikely with daytime highs predicted to be mostly sunny high 80’s (degrees F), with less than 35% chance of rain.
Again this week, even with the holiday, the island was quiet. I took a quick drive on Memorial Day mid-afternoon. Saw only a handful of vehicles on the roadways (east end to Lighthouse, then west on Periwinkle to the end, up Tarpon Bay Rd to the gulf, Gulf Dr to the end and then back the Gulf Drives to the East End).
I was so surprised to see such little traffic, that I then drove over the causeway – which was packed. No need to pay for parking there. Coming back, the number of boats just off shore at the end of Bailey Rd were more than I could count driving. So folks were out enjoying the sunshine, just not driving on the island.
Sanibel & Captiva Islands Association of Realtors
Yesterday was the May membership meeting at the island Association of Realtors with guest speaker, Alison Charney Hussey, Executive Director of C.R.O.W. (Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife). An Open caravan followed with two Sanibel homes and a Sanibel condo open for easy viewing. The next Open caravan is June 11.

Looking at the residential real estate activity posted in the SanCap MLS, since last Friday, there have been seven new sales posted: five Sanibel condos and two Sanibel homes. During the same time, there were five new residential listings and six price changes.
