Another Friday is here. This week passed the midway mark of the 2025 hurricane season. It is usually the last half of season when activity increases but we continue to hope for a reprieve while staying prepared, with an eye on the forecast. Meanwhile, the usual rainy season goes on with a mix of sunshine plus occasional showers. Daytime temperatures are getting a tad cooler, into the mid-80’s (degrees F) with my hibiscus, bougainvillea, and beach roses providing a nice burst of color amid the lush greenery.
When the sun came out briefly this afternoon and after our team property checks, I took a drive around Sanibel, then out to Captiva. A few Captiva pix showing the gulf and bay waters are below. I also noticed several utility work vehicles on San-Cap Rd, new signs at Casa Mariposa (2301 Periwinkle Way) and at Glass Casa Vacation Rentals (formerly VIP Vacation Rentals at 1505 Periwinkle Way), and more ground-level homes being elevated. It may be the quiet month of the year, but progress continues!

Periwinkle Way Milling & Resurfacing Project
Sanibel Public Works Department announced that the Periwinkle Way Milling and Resurfacing Project is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 15. The stretch of Periwinkle included is from 500’ west of Casa Ybel Rd to approximately 1/3 mile east of Donax St. The work will begin with drainage repairs along the north side of Periwinkle including the installation of swales and concrete pipes on Main St, Fitzhugh St, Palm St, and Center St. Work hours for the drainage repair work will be between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Within the next few weeks, milling and paving of Periwinkle will start, occurring in the evening and overnight hours, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. The City will provide notice through a news release and post info on the City’s Facebook page and website when this phase is set to begin. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained. The entire project is expected to take about 120 days, weather permitting.
Sanibel & Captiva Islands Association of Realtors
The local Association of Realtors did not meet this week but hosted their annual three days of continuing education classes required for Florida Realtor license renewals.
Next Thursday is the monthly membership meeting with Caravan after. Guest speaker is Matt Caldwell, Lee County Property Appraiser.
Since last Friday, eight new sales have been posted in the SanCap MLS: all on Sanibel, three condos, four homes, and a lot.
Below, with data from the island MLS are summary tables of the residential sales statistics, followed by the details of the MLS action reported this week.
