This Friday I again am touting how wonderful our weather is in Southwest Florida. We have had over a full week of night temperatures in the 60’s, low 80’s days, plus low humidity and gulf breezes. One of our local weathermen this morning announced that it was the “best weather week” since April and it is expected to continue for a few more days. How nice is that? Makes one want to close up the office and head to the beach.
I have shown a few properties this week and traffic along Periwinkle Way is picking up a little. Although we do not have flocks of snowbirds yet, the early birds are arriving. Below are a few news items, followed by the Sanibel real estate activity since last Friday, as reported in our island Multiple Listing Service. We had a good turn-out at our Realtor Caravan Meeting yesterday. Things are picking up. More properties are selling, though price reductions still are the norm.
Sanibel Restaurant Happenings
It is the time of the year when islanders anxiously await reopening of those local establishments that have closed late summer to spiff up and restock for our busy winter season. This week, there are quite a few nice restaurant changes to report. The SanibelSusan Team loves to eat!
Twilight Cafe is in the process of moving to the former location of Sanibel Sweet Treats, 2420 Periwinkle Way. With this move, Twilight is returning to its more intimate approach to eclectic American cuisine. At Twilight’s current location at 2761 West Gulf Dr, their new sister restaurant will open on October 12. Called The Stone Crab – A Shrimp & Seafood House, it will be family-friendly, & open for both lunch and dinner. In addition to the seafood, rumor has it that it will have a salad bar with take-out, a raw bar, burgers, & live entertainment.
Another new restaurant is coming to the former Mermaid Kitchen at 2025 Periwinkle Way. Cip’s Place in the Forever Green Center will open there sometime before season.
The former Biddles Bucket at the corner of Periwinkle & Tarpon Bay Rd is under renovation expected to open in early Dec, called George & Wendy’s Corner Grill – “Where Sanibel Eats”.
McT’s Shrimp House & Tavern closed last month, but will open this winter, under new ownership.
Still with fine Italian dining, Il Tesoro has gone all organic. In coordination with a book signing later this month, Chef AJ Black is preparing a new chef’s tasting menu.
At Ellington’s Jazz Club & Restaurant, owner Sharon Wise posted this week that they have booked Dana Paul for their New Year’s Eve celebration. Great music and a gourmet 5-course meal, sounds good.
Several others that were closed for summer hiatus, remodeling, vacations, etc. have reopened, including Traders, The Island Cow, & The Over-Easy Cafe, and “thank goodness” The Sanibel Bean (we like our afternoon coffee).
Upcoming Island Events
New events are being posted almost daily now that fall weather is here and the island is getting busier. For a quick snapshot, you can always go to my website for a quick calendar. Here is a: http://www.sanibelsusan.com/index_files/Page4199.htm
This month, you will notice that the 10K Race for F.I.S.H (Friends in Service Here) is next Saturday, October 16. More than 500 runners are expected this year.
The 21st Annual Ding Darling Days begins with a Family Fun Day on Sunday, October 17 and festivities run all week long, through October 23. SanibelSusan Realty Associates is one of the proud sponsors.
Bailey Fest is Sunday, October 24. Your favorite REALTOR® again is singing this year with the BIG ARTS Chorus. Our first performance kicks off BaileyFest at 1 p.m. There will be lots of music, fun, and activities for all ages – all afternoon. Hope to see you there.
Local Chart Reading Course
As an island boater, I can tell you that with Florida’s shifting sand and many shallows, it’s not usually a matter of “if you will go a-ground” but “when”. Even if you rely on a GPS is good to know the local waters. Captiva Island Yacht Club in conjunction with the Sanibel Captiva Sail & Power Squadron is presenting a 2-hour course on October 30 on how to avoid the hazards. Other classes are offered by the Power Squadron through season too.
New Florida Residential Sales Contracts
Revised and renamed this summer, the new Florida residential sales contracts contain a number of enhancements developed in cooperation with Florida REALTORS® & the Florida Bar. Beginning October 1, the older contracts were no longer available; so this week, we tried our hand in using the new version. A little intimidating at first, because of their size, the basic residential contract is 11 pages, while the “as is” version is 10, some of the bulk is due to the larger print size which is a terrific improvement. We now are ready to sell plenty of property this winter.
