It’s Another Beautiful Sunny Sanibel Friday

I sure hope you aren’t sick of reports about the wonderful weather on Sanibel and Captiva. It was another week of mostly blue skies and sunshine with occasional brisk breezes. The Florida drought continues with rain still needed, but there was a short shower last night.

Saw this guy fishing from shore at the bay end of Buttonwood Ln this afternoon.

Until rainy season begins (typically late May), locals and visitors should continue to enjoy the clear turquoise waters surrounding the islands. Fishermen are gearing up for the 14th Annual Doc Ford’s Tarpon Tournament on May 15 which benefits the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge. The event set records in 2025 with 89 tarpon hooked and released, anglers hope to beat that this year.

Plenty of spring flowers are blooming here now including the fragrant gardenia bushes. My frangipani (aka plumeria) has pushed out new green leaves so those beautiful flowers could be next. Up the street, a neighbor’s garden has its first sunflower of the year and yesterday, I also saw the first spring royal poinciana tree blooms. So colorful everywhere!

Sanibel & Captiva Islands Association of Realtors

Yesterday was the April Membership Meeting at the islands Association of Realtors. Guest speaker, Kelly Seaman who is 2026 Commodore of the local America’s Boating Club, aka Sanibel-Captiva Sail and Power Squadron, updated attendees on the latest club happenings. Check out the details on their educational, social, community, and resource offerings at www.SanCapBoating.club

Did you know that they are the only club in the nation that for years has taught a class for 6th graders? “How to Boat Smart” is a required class at the Sanibel School and has been provided by the Club for nearly 20 years. It is so thorough that in its final session, students are given the opportunity to take the Florida Safe Boating Exam and earn a Florida Safe Boating Certificate (which is a legal requirement for boat operators born after Jan 1, 1988). The Club has many classes for adults too.

Next Thursday is the Realtor Association’s last East-End Caravan meeting until fall. Guest speaker will be Sanibel City Councilor Holly Smith. Beginning in May and through the summer, when there is less traffic and fewer new listings, caravans are held every other week with 10 spots available (in any island location) for caravan open houses. There were no properties on caravan yesterday.

Island Real Estate Scoop

Looking at the residential real estate activity posted in the SanCap MLS, since last Friday, there have been 10 new sales: six Sanibel homes, three Sanibel condos, and a Captiva condo.

During the same time, there were 12 new residential listings and 28 price changes. Once again, inventory increases faster than there are sales, while price reductions continue – many significant. Buyers should be jumping at the many choices available.

Below, with data from the island MLS are summary tables of the residential sales statistics, followed by the details of the MLS action reported this week.
