Island Luminary 2021 & Real Estate Scoop

Susan reporting what has been another special week on the islands, including a surprise sale.

Sanibel & Captiva Luminary

Periwinkle Way is getting more festive by the minute as more holiday decorations go up in preparation for Sanibel’s Luminary celebration tonight. The tunnel of lights on the bike path that borders City Park across the street from our office is ready and twinkling. By 5 p.m., luminary candles will be lining the paths too, as many shopping centers and businesses will have special events tonight from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Here is just a partial list:

Olde Sanibel Shoppes – live music with Island Brass.

Bailey’s Shopping Center – live Jazztet from 6 to 8 p.m. Wine, food, & live music at George & Wendy’s. Hot chocolate & cookies at Joey’s Custard.

Village Shops – Live music.

Periwinkle Place – Live music 6 to 9 p.m.

Tahitian Gardens – Live music.

Sanibel Community Church – Live nativity scene, music, food, & children’s activities.

Jerry’s Shopping Center – Live music, photos with Santa, Sanibel Spirits tastings.

Huxters – Live music & tastings.

East End Shops – samples of Homemade Ice Cream. At Sanibel Sea School: music, outdoor activities, bonfire, ornament/cardmaking for kids, snacks.

Tomorrow night, Sat Dec 4, Captiva Luminary includes the golf cart parade which begins at 3:30 p.m. It lasts about an hour. It starts at South Seas, winding down Captiva Dr and then along Andy Rosse Ln, Chapin Ln, and Wiles Dr before going back to the resort. Judging is at 2:30 p.m. near Doc Ford’s. Following that parade, Captiva Luminary features fun and freebies, like on Sanibel. Luminaries are lit from ‘Tween Waters to South Seas.

Reception for Retired City Manager

Also tomorrow, Sat Dec 4 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Community House is a thank-you reception for retired Sanibel City Manager, Judie Zimomra. Until I met Judie, I thought I was hard working. She beat me by a mile. I once saw her on a Sunday at a car wash. She had a phone in each hand with calls in progress and another electronic device in her lap where she was typing like mad. She is a master at multi-tasking.

You can be sure I will be at this event thanking her for her 20-years of service. In addition to the typical day-to-day running of City government, she got us through some difficult memorable times including Hurricanes Charley and Irma, the Sanibel bear, red tide of 2018, and with accomplishments like the Donax Water Treatment Plant and Sanibel Recreation Center. Always cool calm and collected, she will be missed. Thank you, Judie!

Wednesday, we found out clients were the successful offerors on a just-listed home in Gulf Pines. It is always nail-biting when there are multiple showings, which could result in multiple offers. Prospective buyers thinking of making a bid in a situation like this should always make their offer terms the “best”. Best usually means over asking price, with significant deposit(s), “as is”, cash or pre-approved financing, and with a minimal inspection period, if any at all.

Wednesday evening also was the Association of Realtors® charity event, FISHmas, where holiday donations for needy children, teens, and adult gifts were collected and will be distributed by F.I.S.H. of Sanibel & Captiva. The SanibelSusan Team contributed items, I attended the event, and Elise helped with the donation delivery this morning.

At the Thursday morning Realtor® Caravan Meeting, I announced that our new listing at Donax Village #7 would be open. Those Open Houses typically are from 9 a.m. until noon; but, since winter-long renters arrive today and we had several prospects walk-in plus Realtor® previews, teammate Dave kept it open until mid-afternoon.
