Just Another Happy Friday at SanibelSusan Realty

It’s been another week of wonderful weather on Sanibel and Captiva Islands with reduced traffic, and some good real estate action – three closings for us, including an off-island sale on Monday by teammates David and Lisa and one scheduled to close later this afternoon on island. (The last day of the month is always a busy one for title companies.)

The details of the action posted since last Friday in the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Multiple Listing Service follow some other news below.

Not many new sales were announced at our local Association of Realtors® weekly caravan meeting yesterday, but several new listings were mentioned. A couple of interesting commercial ones are:

Jensen’s Resort & Marina on Captiva, including the marina with 35 boat slips, retail fishing gear store, fueling station, gulf-front resort with seven units and bay-front cottage resort with 10 buildings (14 units) is listed by Jane Reader Weaver with John Naumann & Associates. Asking price is $30M.

Bait Box on Sanibel which includes the fishing supply shop, bank building next door and large parking area with warehouse behind) is listed by David Schuldenfrei with VIP Realty Group. Asking price is $2.5M.

SanibelSusan Realty associates sell commercial listings too, so let us know if you would like more details.

Wondering What’s Going on Down by the Lighthouse?

On April 17, the City of Sanibel began construction of a “living shoreline” at Lighthouse Beach Park. According to the City web site: “Shorelines are often stabilized with hardened structures, such as seawalls and rock revetments, which can often increase the rate of coastal erosion. Living shorelines incorporate the use of structural and organic materials, such as wetland plants, oysters, and sand, with limited use of rock and concrete materials. This results in a more stable long-term solution that provides benefits to fish and wildlife.

“The road leading into Lighthouse Beach Park will be closed for vehicular traffic only, from the Fishing Pier parking lot to the Lighthouse Cottages during the construction of this project until May 1, 2017 weather permitting.

“Pedestrians will be able to access the Lighthouse area by designated walking areas. This area is prone to erosion during storm events and the installation of the living shoreline will help reduce the impact of erosion to the road leading into Lighthouse Beach Park.

“Every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience to the general public. Users of Lighthouse Beach Park should plan on parking in designated areas when accessing the Lighthouse property and use CAUTION through the area where workers are present….”

Guidelines for 2017 Sea Turtle Nesting Season

Sea turtle nesting season is May 1 to October 31. According to an article posted in the “Island Sun” this week, “Sanibel’s eleven miles of gulf shoreline have more nesting activity than any other beach in Lee County. Sought by predators and susceptible to dehydration, sea turtle hatchlings have a one in one thousand chance of survival. Human activities can further reduce that chance.

“By following these simple guidelines, you can do your part to ensure the survival of these magnificent creatures:
