From a Southern Maine childhood to the good life on Sanibel, Susan took a 20+year hiatus in-between, mostly in Arlington, Virginia, to pursue a successful career in marine engineering & naval architecture. After vacationing on the islands for many years, Susan & husband, Dick, moved here permanently in 1992, forming their island real estate team. Son, David Anderson, joined the business in 1999. In 2002, already with five years experience in real estate sales & rentals, Elise Carnes joined the team. Together, The SanibelSusan Team has over 60 years experience in the business & more than $250 million in island sales.

 

In 2004, following Hurricane Charley & The SanibelSusan Team’s most productive year, $32 million+ sold from Jan 'til Charley (Aug 13), Susan opened SanibelSusan Realty Associates, conveniently located in Sanibel Square, across from the island community house & city park.

 

Susan is an active community member. The Sanibel & Captiva Islands Assoc of Realtors® selected her as "Realtor® of the Year" in 1996. She was President of the local Assoc in 1999, & later picked as their 2001 “TOP GUN”. Every year since 1992, she has been awarded Honor Society membership, recognizing her professional work & community service contributions. At the state level, as a member of the FL Assoc of Realtors®, Susan has received a "Sterling R" for 9 years & has been selected for the state Honor Society for 11 years. She has served on many state leadership committees including the Professional Development Committee which provides the continuing education curriculum & instructors for FL Realtors®, & the Professional Standards Forum which monitors & provides input to the Realtors® Code of Ethics & standards for excellence.

 

In 2006, Susan was one of the first local Realtors® to receive the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Specialist (SCIS) designation, shown above. It is an 8-module educational program covering the aspects of buying and selling real estate on these barrier islands. SCIS designees believe that "the islands are not just a place where we sell real estate, it's a commitment to preserve and promote the rights of property owners and wildlife." In 2008, Susan became EcoBroker Certified. EcoBroker is partnered with the U.S. Dept of Energy Building America and Built Green® Colorado Education, one of the most successful green building programs in the U.S. In 2010, Susan completed both the e-PRO® Technology Certification Program & the TRC (Transnational Referral Certified) Broker Programs (the latter is part of the 30+country organization ICREA (International Consortium of Real Estate Associations)).
